Doug Riney - Minister of Music

Doug started in music ministry in 1978 and has been the Minister of Music at Northridge Friends since 1988. The Adult Choir, under Doug’s direction, ministers to the church body by sharing Christ-centered music and by reflecting the joy and meaning of the text during the worship service. Doug provides support and encouragement to Kevin and Lori Hoppock and Sylvia Harvey for their ministry in music through Praise and Worship, as well as God’s Choir. The Adult Choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. These rehearsals are always concluded with a time of prayer for our church, emotional and physical needs of those we love, and a time of thanksgiving for what God has done and His amazing faithfulness.

In 2000 Doug married his wife Sheryl, who is a part-time faculty member for Southwestern College. They have a son, Paul, who will be three years old this fall. He teaches them more about God’s love, joy and faithfulness than they could have ever imagined learning.

Doug’s full-time profession is as Director of Vocal Music at Wichita East High School, the largest public high school in the state of Kansas, where he instructs 250 students each day. He believes that God has called him to work with high school students and many times he struggles with them for their souls. Doug is always there to provide a word of prayer and encouragement or be a “father” to the fatherless to one of his “kids.” He and Sheryl have these students in their home on a regular basis and they are very much a part of their extended family.

Doug shares his thoughts of music ministry, “It is my desire to allow God to use me to lead people in their spiritual worship through engaging songs of praise, musical selections that minister and inspire them to draw closer to Jesus Christ and to experience in a real way God’s love and grace in their lives.”
